Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
The Osiris CMS runs on Open Source software. This has provided us with a rock solid base, vetted by thousands of developers, upon which to build. Every one of these open source products has proven their mettle in high-demand environments.
Linux
The poster child of the Open Source movement was and is the Linux operating system. No open source project has gained more publicity or more popularity than Linus Torvalds' Unix operating system workalike.
Apache
For nearly a decade, the answer to which web server has the most market share has been the same: Apache. It is easy to configure, easy to use, and robust enough to run sites such as Amazon.com, Yahoo, and CNN.
PostgreSQL
While perhaps not quite in the spot light as much as mySQL, PostgreSQL has long had a strong development community that has quietly evolved it into an enterprise-level database.
Perl
First developed by Larry Wall in the late 1980s, this programming language found itself uniquely suited to the needs of the early World Wide Web. It has since become a stable, matured language with a worldwide community of developers and contributors. One of the most remarkable things to emerge from this community is CPAN, a vast collection of free, reusable code submitted by individual developers and availble for anyone to use.
Giving Back
We feel it is important to show our gratitude to the open source community in some concrete way. To date we have made several contributions to JSAN and CPAN from code we are actively developing and using in Osiris.
